  • Broadcasters Declaration

    Convinced of the key role of public and private broadcasting, including digital and enhanced broadcasting in the years ahead, in bringing about an information society in which all citizens are included and can participate; stressing broadcasters' commitment and contribution to such fundamental values as freedom of expression, access to information, media pluralism and cultural diversity; believing that the information society should be founded on the principles enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the World Broadcasting Unions (WBU) put forward principles and objectives which are outlined in the Broadcasters Declaration.

  • Digital Radio Guide

    The World Broadcasting Unions Digital Radio Guide is for use by engineers and managers in the radio broadcast community worldwide. It covers a wide base of digital radio technology and services, written by the technical experts who work with them. Along with gaining an understanding of digital radio, readers will also acquire insights into international digital terrestrial and satellite tranmission systems including:

    • Digital Radio Mondiale (DRM)

    • Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB - Eureka 147)

    • Japan's Digital Radio Broadcasting (ISDB-TSB)

    • iBiquity's HD Radio System (IBOC)

    • WorldSpace

    • Sirius and XM Satellite Radio

    • Mobile Broadcasting Corp. and TU Media Corp.

    • Internet Radio

    The guide includes references to relevant sources and websites with technical descriptions of the aforementioned systems.

  • PID Factory Default Settings for MPEG-2 Contribution Encoders

    The following manufacturers: Scopus, Tandberg, Harris, Tiernan, Link Research, NTT and Thomson, have agreed on a list of common PID factory default settings for MPEG-2 contribution encoders. The voluntary adoption of these settings will improve interoperability mainly during live contribution exchanges, when different encoders are used sequentially.

    These settings are available in new encoder products as well in older models through software upgrade. Please contact your vendor for more information.

    Please ensure that encoders used in the collection of news and events have the capability to default to these settings and that operations staff are familiar with their operation.

    The setting are:

    MPEG-2 Default PIDs for contribution

    PAT

    = 0x 0000

    PMT

    = 0x 0100

    VIDEO PID

    = 0x 0200

        PCR PID = 0x 0200 (embedded in Video PID)

    AUDIO I PID

    = 0x 1010

    AUDIO II PID

    = 0x 1020
