About NABA-NOC

The work of the NABA News and Operations Committee supports the membership on issues related to the operational and editorial aspects of news and broadcast activities. Areas of focus are international news and information gathering, development of field and newsroom procedures, and advancement of journalistic standards and practices. Operational areas of interest and concern include program material transport, program exchange and the interoperability of different formats and equipment.

The Committee's work plan is currently focused on:

  • HD for news: Investigation of best practices for contribution and newsgathering in HD including special events and pool challenges related to different formats, aspect ratio, audio issues and staff training considerations.


  • Satellite considerations and options: New and emerging products and procedures for reducing channel size, and increasing quality.


  • Local loop considerations: Improving local digital access in centers across North America.


  • Satellite industry consolidation and directions: Product offerings and customer service support continued to be an area of central importance to members particularly in light of recent satellite industry consolidations.
