NABA Secretariat Staff

The NABA Secretariat is managed by the Director-General, who is responsible for carrying out the association's strategy as approved by the Board of Directors and ensuring NABA objectives are achieved. The Director-General is supported by the NABA Secretariat staff.

Michael McEwen

Michael McEwen is Director-General of the North American Broadcasters Association (NABA) and was former Secretary-General of the organization from 2001 to 2005. From 2006 to 2012 Mr. McEwen was a consultant advising on Media, Strategy, Policy and Broadcast Digital Technologies. Mr. McEwen is a former Chairman and Director of the UK based Media Asset Capital Ltd. He is past President of Canadian Digital Television (CDTV) and past President of the World Digital Audio Broadcast (DAB) Forum. In addition, Mr. McEwen spent over 27 years with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) including production and executive management roles.

Anh Ngo
Director, Administration

Anh Ngo is the Director of Administration for the North American Broadcasters Association and World Broadcasting Unions and reports directly to NABA's Director-General. Ms. Ngo's primary responsibilities are to provide continuity on the work plans and activities pertaining to North American and global television and radio industries addressing legal, business development, technical and operational issues. Ms. Ngo also oversees the general office and financial management including the preparation and administration of the budgets for both organizations. In this role, she reports directly to the Director General and the Chairs of the numerous committees. Ms. Ngo is NABA's longest serving employee, having started her career with the Association in August 1997. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and a Minor in Spanish from McMaster University. In her spare time, she loves to travel and is working towards her Culinary Arts certificate from George Brown College.

Jenn Hadfield
Senior Coordinator, Committees

Jenn Hadfield is the Senior Coordinator, Committees for NABA and the World Broadcasting Unions (WBU). Ms. Hadfield is the key contact for four committees: Radio (including the Future of Radio & Audio Symposium), Legal, Risk Awareness & Continuity, and the WBU-WIPO Broadcaster Treaty Working Group. She also provides support for other NABA/WBU events, including the NABA AGM and other Symposiums, and started at NABA as Executive Assistant. Ms. Hadfield previously worked in radio in Toronto and Guelph, and spent 10 years with Central Ontario Broadcasting as an announcer and Music Director for 107.5 Kool FM in Barrie, and as a Music Manager at Indie88 in Toronto. She has a B.A. in Psychology from York University and a Bachelor of Applied Arts in Radio and Television from Ryerson University.

Ashley Lloyd Spanton
Executive Assistant

With over 10 years experience in the Public Relations and Communications field, Ashley Lloyd Spanton joined the NABA Secretariat team in 2016 as the Executive Assistant to NABA Director-General Michael McEwen. Ms. Lloyd Spanton began her career at Global Television handling media for the show Rockstar: INXS until joining Ashworth Associates Inc., a boutique PR firm in Toronto where she managed a number of events and PR campaigns. She is passionate about music, loves to read and writes for the book review website she co-founded.

Jason Paris
Editor, NABAcaster

Jason Paris primarily performs the role of Editor for NABA's bi-monthly NABAcaster newsletter. He also provides recurring communications support to the Association in the form of news releases, brochure and website updates. Mr. Paris is currently employed full time with CBC/Radio-Canada in Toronto as their Manager, Office Administration, TV Production. Mr. Paris' previous positions include coordinating local film production for I.A.T.S.E.'s Toronto Film Office and assisting in the TV publicity department of Alliance Atlantis. He holds a double-major in Mass Communications & Political Science from Toronto's York University and a diploma in Broadcast Journalism from Seneca College.
